“Having the ability to create something out of nothing keeps me coming back to art.”
Chloe Wiederhorn (she/her) is a seventeen-year-old high school girl from Montclair, New Jersey. She first became deeply involved with art in middle school, finding the process of artmaking extremely satisfying and fulfilling. She has since grown to view art as a broad outlet for her boundless creativity. At times, she creates works with intricate messages. At other times, she simply creates art for the pure joy she earns from the creative and physical processes of making art, hence her piece “The first self portrait I am proud of.”
She generally gravitates towards the dreamy world of surrealism where she embraces the rejected, the disregarded, the unconventional and the radically aesthetic. She also, however, pointedly does not confine her art to one label, stating that she doesn’t know if she’ll ever have a distinctive art style. She experiments with traditional realms as well, incorporating personally relevant themes such as femininity into her work.
She will be the president of Montclair High School’s Art Club in the 2021-2022 school year, and will also be co-head of the Props crew in the school’s tech theater.
